The Medical Director makes certain all students have a safe and healthy experience at our outdoor school. When not dealing with immediate medical needs, the Medic assists the Site Director in all aspects of the program. In addition to their basic medical duties, the Medical Director is in charge of the overall training, supervision, and management of the Medic team at High Trails. They are the primary school contact and the lead in projects, inservices, student and parent concerns, and health care plan maintenance.

  • Restrictive Qualifications: Licensed by the State of California as a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
  • Number of positions: 2 (one at each site)
  • Compensation includes monthly salary, health insurance, room and board, pro deals, and copious amounts of paid time off. Pay/Benefits breakdown in the Job Description above.

We have 3 staff trainings during the school year: September is our largest training, with smaller trainings occurring in January and March as staffing needs dictate. It's also possible, that with the right person, we have a spot open right now. So....

Nature Question

We work at residential camps located in the National Forest. This means, that while we have building with plumbing and heating, we're still surrounded by trees and rocks and animals and blue sky. What is your experience in the outdoors, and how do you see yourself fitting into this environment?

Caregiving Question

We work primarily with 5th and 6th grade students. While we are prepared for, and need to treat, major injuries, the majority of our cases are homesickness, stuffy noses, headaches, and upset stomachs. Describe how you see yourself in a caregiving role that requires a good amount of plain old TLC and attention.

Professionalism Question

What helps us to stand apart from other outdoor science schools in our area is the level of professionalism that we demand from our staff. We insist that you have an attitude and an approach to your job that is characterized by intelligence, integrity, maturity, and thoughtfulness. We are, however, a camp, where we encourage you to be goofy and silly and to have ridiculous amounts of fun. What side do you lean more towards? How will you walk this fine line, making certain to balance both professionalism and fun?
